Unheard for 50 Years: Neil Young's iconic 1977 Album Oceanside Countryside finally set for release
The album was recorded during sessions that also produced tracks for 'Comes a Time', one of Young's most acclaimed records. Despite its completion in 1977, _Oceanside Countryside_ was shelved and remained unheard of for fifty years.
This analog original album was recorded in 1977 and unreleased. These songs are the original mixes done at the time of the recordings in the order I planned for the album
Designed as a contrast to Young's heavier rock sound, _Oceanside Countryside_ has been restored with analog equipment to maintain its 1970s authenticity. Producer John Hanlon worked with Young to honor the album’s original vision.
With over 40 studio albums, this release further solidifies Young's legacy and is eagerly anticipated by fans and critics. The classic Analog Original Series, known for its meticulous preservation of Young's early work, continues to receive praise for its attention to detail.
It's a mixture of what was happening in the city and what I was experiencing out in nature
Pre-orders are now open for vinyl and digital formats, marking the first time this album will be available on vinyl with its original recordings. Fans eagerly anticipate this long-lost gem, which adds to Young's celebrated legacy.
“I sang the vocals and played the instruments on Oceanside in Florida at Triad studios and Malibu at Indigo studio,” Young aded. “I sang the vocals and recorded with my great band of friends, Ben Keith [steel guitar], Joe Osborn [bass], Karl T. Himmel [drums], and Rufus Thibodeaux [fiddle] at Crazy Mama’s in Nashville on Countryside. I hope you enjoy this treasure of an Analog Original recording, recorded by Tim Mulligan, as much as I do. Listening to it now, I think I should have put it out back then.”
