Three Days Grace Plays San Antonio With Fill-In Drummer Shaun Foist
Three Days Grace played Frost Bank Center in San Antonio on Monday, October 26, as part of its Alienation tour, with I Prevail and The Funeral Portrait opening. The show came one day before drummer Neil Sanderson's scheduled surgery, and the band took the stage with a last-minute lineup change.
The Canadian band has spent much of 2026 touring, and the San Antonio stop brought together two generations of lead singers, with Adam Gontier and Matt Walst sharing vocal duties. Former Breaking Benjamin drummer Shaun Foist filled in behind the kit.
Alienation tour arrives in San Antonio
Three Days Grace performed at Frost Bank Center in San Antonio, Texas, on Monday, October 26, as part of its ongoing Alienation Tour. The concert began at 7 p.m. local time. Supporting acts I Prevail and The Funeral Portrait joined the evening's lineup, bringing metalcore and alternative rock influences to the stage.
The tour celebrates Alienation, the band's eighth studio album, released on August 22, 2025. Featuring 12 tracks, the record includes singles such as "Mayday" and "Apologies," alongside heavier songs like "Dominate" and "Kill Me Fast." Since February, the group has toured extensively, combining its latest releases with fan favourites from more than two decades of music.
Drummer undergoes emergency surgery
An unexpected setback has affected the band's autumn performances. Drummer Neil Sanderson recently revealed that he completely ruptured a tendon in his left bicep during an outdoor activity. The injury requires emergency surgery scheduled for Tuesday, October 27, preventing him from performing behind the drums.
Former Breaking Benjamin drummer Shaun Foist has stepped in as his temporary replacement. Sanderson expects to miss three concerts, including San Antonio, Houston and Rogers, Arkansas. Nevertheless, he plans to rejoin the tour on keyboards and backing vocals once his recovery allows. Despite the lineup change, the remaining concerts are expected to proceed.
Sanderson has said he expects to return on keyboards and backing vocals once he has recovered. As of October 29, no update on the surgery's outcome had been published.
Two vocalists bring classic hits
One of the tour's biggest attractions is the return of original frontman Adam Gontier, who left Three Days Grace in 2013. Gontier left the band in January 2013 and officially rejoined in October 2024, with Walst remaining as a lead vocalist. Rather than replacing Matt Walst, Gontier now shares lead vocal responsibilities with him, allowing the band to revisit different periods of its career. Audiences can expect a combination of older favourites, including "Animal I Have Become," "Pain," "Never Too Late" and "I Hate Everything About You."
Previous performances have featured acoustic arrangements, giving familiar songs a different atmosphere before returning to heavier material. With 20 Billboard Mainstream Rock Airplay No. 1 hits, the band has plenty of material to choose from.
Tickets and concert arrangements
Frost Bank Center operates cashless parking and uses colour-coded lots to guide drivers. Following San Antonio, Three Days Grace will continue its American tour, eventually reaching Los Angeles' Intuit Dome.
