The Weeknd transforms Ford Field with dark spectacle and stadium-sized emotion

The show featured a cross-shaped runway extending across the stadium floor, allowing The Weeknd to connect with fans on all sides. Visual elements played a huge role, strobe lights, lasers, and towering flames complemented an apocalyptic video backdrop filled with crumbling buildings and surreal imagery. A large robot statue by Japanese artist Hajime Sorayama stood as a focal point on stage, adding to the dystopian vibe.

Throughout the performance, red-robed dancers moved across the stage, enhancing the ritualistic feel of the production. Despite the grandeur, The Weeknd made sure to interact with the audience, shouting out "Detroit!" and engaging with fans up close, a warmer presence than in previous tours.

The setlist moved fluidly from upbeat tracks like "Take My Breath" and "I Can’t Feel My Face" to emotional ballads such as "Wicked Games" and "Less Than Zero." Eleven new songs from Hurry Up Tomorrow were performed, with "Sao Paulo" and "Baptized in Fear" standing out. Longtime fans were treated to surprises like "High for This" and "Kiss Land".

Playboi Carti, who opened the show, later joined The Weeknd to perform "Timeless" and "Rather Lie," sending the crowd into a frenzy. As expected, "Blinding Lights", the most-streamed song in history, served as the high-energy climax, followed by a fiery finale with "Moth to a Flame".

Downtown Detroit was buzzing Saturday night with a Tigers game, the Movement Festival, and prep for the Detroit Grand Prix. Fans came from across Michigan and nearby Canada, especially Toronto, where The Weeknd will perform in July.

The concert proved that The Weeknd remains a commanding force in music, balancing vocal strength, artistic vision, and stadium-scale showmanship. He’s set to return to the stage Sunday night to conclude his Detroit run before continuing the tour across North America.
