Retracing the 'Opalite' Easter Eggs

Fans soon began revisiting Swift's earlier work for clues. Her "Opalite" music video, released in February, contains two details that look particularly interesting in hindsight. Around the 2:34 mark, a background poster reads "Patient For The Encore." 

Several minutes later, Swift and Domhnall Gleeson perform a dance routine before judges reveal four scorecards, all displaying zero. Neither moment had an obvious connection to a future release when the video arrived. Seven months later, both details have attracted fresh interest following the reveal of the new song's title.

The Emmy Awards Clues Left in Plain Sight

More unusual details surfaced during the September 14 Emmys. Swift appeared in a prerecorded Law & Order: Special Victims Unit sketch alongside Mariska Hargitay, playing a rookie detective while the characters investigated whether she would attend the ceremony.

Looking directly at the camera during one scene, Swift says what they are searching for is "hiding in plain sight" before delivering an unusual sequence of seemingly unrelated words. Viewers later found ways to extract letters from the sequence and rearrange them into "ENCORE." Another detail came from a clock displaying 10:13. That number has drawn interest because physical copies of "Patient Zero" are expected to ship around October 13.

What Comes Next: Showgirls, Marriages, and Honors

Speculation now extends beyond the single itself. Swift's altered bio comes from The Life of a Showgirl, while similar replacements of the letter O with zero reportedly appeared in the album's lyrics on Apple Music. Branding for the record also appears alongside "Patient Zero" on her online store.

Exactly 12 exclamation marks in Swift's announcement have fueled theories about another connection because The Life of a Showgirl is her 12th studio album. Other fans interpret the three zeroes as references to three separate announcements, with Taylor Swift (Taylor's Version) and Reputation (Taylor's Version) among the possibilities being discussed.

While more surprises could be on the way, "Patient Zero" will be Swift's first new song since her July wedding to Travis Kelce, followed days later by the MTV VMAs, where she is set to receive the inaugural Artist Director Honors.
