Fresh music continues to arrive from America's alternative rock scene, with emerging bands exploring new sounds while revisiting their musical roots. Some artists are finding inspiration in earlier releases rather than completely changing direction. Oklahoma's Ben Quad is among those returning to familiar territory with a new song. Their latest release also arrives ahead of a busy international touring schedule stretching into early 2027.

Unpacking Fresh Personal Struggles

Ben Quad released "I Only Let You Down Now" on October 12, 2026, through Pure Noise Records. The standalone single arrived alongside an official music video, offering fans another glimpse of the band's evolving sound.

Its lyrics explore the frustration of repeating mistakes that someone believed they had already overcome. Breaking that cycle forms the song's central message, reflecting personal growth and the difficulties of changing old habits.

Musically, the group has returned to its emo influences, placing greater emphasis on intricate guitar riffs. Members describe the track as a culmination of their previous songwriting and musical experiences.

The Origins of Ben Quad

Formed in Oklahoma in 2018, Ben Quad consists of vocalist Sam Wegrzynski, guitarist Edgar Viveros, bassist Henry Shields and drummer Isaac Young. Interestingly, their name comes from Ben Quadinaros, a podracer featured in Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace.

The band gained wider attention through its 2022 single "You're Part Of It," which had accumulated more than two million Spotify streams by October 2024. That success encouraged the musicians to explore heavier screamo influences, eventually shaping their 2024 EP Ephemera. Their second album, Wisher, followed in 2025.

Reconnecting With Their Emo Roots

Ben Quad's musical identity has continued developing through elements of Midwest emo, screamo and post-hardcore. During a 2024 interview, Viveros explained that the group had experimented with heavier music before signing with Pure Noise Records. The popularity of "You're Part Of It" gave them confidence to explore that direction further.

Wegrzynski also explained that the label was willing to support their creative decisions rather than impose a particular image. At the time, the musicians explained that they preferred experimenting with different styles rather than limiting themselves to one musical genre. Their newest single now reconnects those heavier experiments with the guitar-driven sound that helped establish their identity.

North American and International Trek Kicks Off

The single's release coincides with Ben Quad's UK headline tour with Riley!, which begins October 13 in Manchester and concludes October 24 in London. November brings a return to North America, where the Oklahoma musicians will support Boston Manor during the tenth-anniversary tour celebrating Be Nothing. American performances include Chicago on November 4, Brooklyn on November 7, Philadelphia on November 10 and Los Angeles on November 20. Additional concerts are scheduled in San Francisco, Seattle and Denver.

Fans can also catch the group at Orlando's Vans Warped Tour in November before a December 20 performance with Hot Mulligan in Detroit. International dates continue in January 2027, with concerts planned across Asia and Australia, including performances.
