“It’s Not That Deep” marks Demi Lovato’s joyful exit from emotional overthinking
For someone who once sang about survival and scars, Demi Lovato now sounds like she’s taken a permanent vacation from emotional labor. It’s Not That Deep, her ninth studio album, arrives with the energy of someone who finally deleted their therapist’s number and replaced it with their DJ’s. It’s rhythm over revelation, groove over grief — and honestly, good for her.
Gone are the ballads and breakdowns, and she has officially traded confessionals for confetti, letting the disco ball handle her emotional output. It’s for dancing like you’re allergic to accountability.

When depth packs a suitcase
The lead single "Fast" sets the pace with pulsing, caffeine fueled energy ready for the dance floor. Then comes "Kiss," "Here All Night," and a handful of other songs that sound like they were written between hair flips. The beats sparkle, the lyrics bounce, and if you listen too closely you might accidentally learn that having fun is now a coping mechanism.
"Sorry to Myself" and "Ghost" try to flirt with vulnerability but ghost it halfway through. They’re therapy sessions that end the moment things get uncomfortable. The entire album feels like emotional minimalism. Nothing heavy, nothing hard, just a feather-light bop that insists healing can wait until after the encore.

Dancing instead of dealing
At her one-night-only show at the Hollywood Palladium, Lovato debuted her new era with the confidence of someone who’s never met a bad lighting angle. And now she’s taking it on the road. The _It’s Not That Deep_ Tour kicks off April 8 in Charlotte and wraps May 25 in Houston, featuring Slovak singer-songwriter Adéla as the opener.
The tour promises exactly what the album delivers — no brooding, no crying, no meaning, just neon lights and Lovato twirling through the chaos of existence with a wink that says, "Relax. It’s really not that deep."
